Country music icon Charlie Robison passed away suddenly at the age of 59 due to cardiac arrest.
He was declared deceased at a San Antonio hospital, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the family.
For over a quarter of a century, Robison crafted music, creating a signature mix of country, rock, and blues.
Throughout his career, he launched nine studio albums. Several other renowned musicians, such as Willie Nelson, George Strait, and Alanis Morissette, have covered his tracks.
Born in 1966 in Houston, Texas, Robison spent his childhood in Bandera, Texas, a town where his family has a deep ranching history.
Music was in his blood, with his father being a musician. From a tender age, Robison picked up the guitar and started composing songs. To chase his musical dreams, he relocated to Austin, Texas in the early 1990s.
Robison soon became a recognized figure in Austin’s vibrant music community, launching his first album, “Bandera,” in 1996. Both critics and fans appreciated the album, marking the start of his journey as an independent artist.
His music, over the years, has delved into life’s raw and intense aspects. Robison’s compositions frequently touched upon love, heartbreak, addiction, and salvation. Recognized for its genuine resonance, Robison’s music has led to him being acknowledged as a pivotal Texas country songwriter of his era.
In 2018, due to surgical complications, Robison decided to step back from the music scene. Reflecting on his journey, he remarked, “It’s been an incredible journey, and the past 25 years have been deeply meaningful to me.”
Even after stepping away, his music remains a favorite for many globally. He is celebrated as a true Texas country luminary, and his legacy in song will resonate for generations.
His 2001 album “Step Right Up” included his singular Top 40 country hit, “I Want You Bad.”
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Kristen Robison, as well as four children and stepchildren.
