Supernatural’ Prequel ‘The Winchesters’ In Works At The CW From Jensen & Danneel Ackles

Supernatural fans, get ready for a potential return to the world of the Winchesters. The CW network is currently developing a prequel series called The Winchesters, which will focus on the parents of Sam and Dean Winchester. The project is executive produced by Jensen Ackles, who played Dean Winchester on the original series, and his wife Danneel, who had a recurring role on Supernatural.

The Winchesters, which has received a script commitment, is being written and executive produced by Robbie Thompson, a former co-executive producer on Supernatural. The show will be narrated by Dean Winchester, played by Ackles, and will tell the untold love story of John and Mary Winchester. The series will explore how they met and the sacrifices they made to save their love and the world. This new project is being produced by Chaos Machine Productions, the company formed by Jensen and Danneel Ackles last year. Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind Supernatural, is also involved in the production alongside Chaos Machine. Jensen Ackles expressed his excitement for the new series, stating,

After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”

Supernatural, which ran for 15 seasons, followed the adventures of brothers Dean and Sam Winchester as they battled supernatural creatures. John and Mary Winchester, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Samantha Smith, were key characters in the show. Mary was killed by a demon when Sam was a baby, leading John to become a hunter and teach his sons the family business. John died in the second season premiere. Supernatural, created by Eric Kripke, was a long-running success and the longest-running sci-fi/genre series in the history of American broadcast television. The CW had previously attempted to launch spinoff series with Bloodlines and Wayward Sisters, but both were ultimately unsuccessful.

If The Winchesters moves forward, it will bring both stars of Supernatural back to the CW, as Jared Padalecki, who played Sam Winchester, currently stars in the network’s series Walker. Jensen Ackles will also be seen in a new role as Soldier Boy in the upcoming third season of Amazon’s hit series, The Boys. He and Danneel are represented by Gersh, Management 360, and Ziffren Brittenham. Robbie Thompson, the writer and executive producer of The Winchesters, was a part of Supernatural for five years and most recently worked as a co-executive producer on Netflix’s Cursed. He is represented by Artists First and Mark Wetzstein. Fans of Supernatural can now look forward to diving deeper into the origins of the Winchester family with The Winchesters and witness the epic love story of John and Mary Winchester unfold.
