Although Supernatural ended in 2020 after 15 seasons, Ackles has been formulating plans to bring it back as a miniseries. He envisions a darker and shorter direction for the show in the form of a 10-episode short-order on HBO Max.
Ackles compares this idea to a cross between True Detective and Supernatural, introducing new hair-raising adventures for the characters Sam and Dean, played by Ackles and Jared Padalecki. While this may excite fans, Ackles acknowledges that it is not something to expect in the immediate future.
