Misha Collins Talks ‘Gotham Knights,’ Playing Harvey Dent, and Becoming Two-Face

The CW drama series Gotham Knights, created by Natalie Abrams, Chad Fiveash, and James Patrick Stoteraux, follows Turner Hayes (played by Oscar Morgan), the adopted son of Bruce Wayne, who finds himself framed for the murder of Batman, the famous Gotham City vigilante. Turner teams up with Duela, the Joker’s daughter (played by Olivia Rose Keegan), as well as Harper Row (Fallon Smythe) and her brother Cullen (Tyler DiCiara), along with his best friend Stephanie Brown (Anna Lore) and Batman sidekick Carrie Kelley (Navia Robinson).

Each character possesses their own unique set of skills. With the Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) on their trail, the Knights must avoid capture while uncovering the true identity of the mastermind behind the lethal Court of Owls, with the assistance of District Attorney Harvey Dent (Misha Collins). In a recent interview with Collider, Collins discussed his experience portraying a character who is unraveling the mystery of his own psyche on his journey to becoming Two-Face.

He also talked about Dent’s struggle between seeking justice and abiding by the rules, following his intuition in defending the innocent Knights, a dream he had that ended up influencing the show, and finally seeing what the transformation into Two-Face would look like. Collins also shared how being a part of Gotham Knights from the beginning compared to joining the already-established Supernatural. Collins expressed his fascination with the many mysteries presented throughout the season, including who killed Bruce Wayne, how to prove Turner Hayes’ innocence, and the identity of the Court of Owls. He commended the pacing of the show, which allowed the mysteries to unfold seamlessly.

Additionally, he shared Dent’s personal journey of self-discovery and how it intertwines with his pursuit of justice and protection of the falsely accused Knights. While Dent is typically a by-the-book character, Collins acknowledged that it is challenging for him to bend the law to help Turner and do what he believes is right. Despite the overwhelming evidence against the Knights, Dent aligns himself with the pursuit of truth and justice rather than blindly following the evidence. Collins also stated that, although Dent knows Turner Hayes, he recognizes that the other members of the group are different but asserts that they are not the killers. When it came to Collins’ involvement in the show, he revealed that he was aware of Dent’s journey, including his transformation into Two-Face, from the beginning.

In fact, Collins had a dream about how the transformation would happen and shared his idea with the showrunners. To his surprise, they embraced his vision and incorporated it into the storyline. Collins praised the showrunners for their receptiveness and ability to handle the challenges of managing a large production. Collins had the opportunity to see the concept of Two-Face’s transformation before it was completed, as he viewed the visual effects makeup artist’s drawings. He expressed his appreciation for the show’s ability to

combine elements from comic book lore while also incorporating fresh and unique storytelling. Having joined Supernatural when it was already an established show, Collins found it exciting to be a part of Gotham Knights from the beginning. He enjoyed contributing to the creative process and establishing the tone, look, and feel of the show alongside the rest of the ensemble. While he cherished his time on Supernatural, Collins highlighted the rewarding experience of being involved in the conversations about the future of Gotham Knights. Gotham Knights airs on Tuesday nights on The CW.
