CBS has unveiled a promo image revealing a first official look at Jensen Ackles in his next TV series role.
Tracker’s overarching plot thickens as Season 1 approaches its finale. The show has also revealed more details about Jensen Ackles’ debut appearance and his character’s role in the series.
Deadline revealed that Tracker’s penultimate episode will heavily feature the sibling dynamic (or rivalry) between brothers Colter and Russell Shaw (played by Justin Hartley and Jensen Ackles, respectively). Per the report, CBS has also confirmed that Ackles’ character will be introduced in Season 1’s penultimate episode “Off The Books,” which airs on May 12. Colter’s contentious history with Russell has been referenced on numerous occasions throughout the season, building anticipation for the latter’s introduction in the series. Hartley’s recent announcement of Ackles’ casting has also fueled excitement among the show’s growing fan base.
CBS also released the first image of Ackles’ appearance in the show, along with a synopsis of his debut episode: “Colter is forced to team up with his estranged brother, Russell, who enlists his help to track down a former army buddy who’s gone missing after several weeks of paranoid behavior. The investigation takes the brothers into the world of Special Forces missions, shady off-the-books programs and conspiracy theories, all while they contend with their family’s past.” While the synopsis seems to be a by-the-numbers episode typical of the series, the sneak-peak image begs for an uncanny reference to Ackles’ run in The CW’s Supernatural.
Tracker Teases A Troubled Family Dynamic
Tracker gradually laid out Colter Shaw’s backstory through flashback scenes as the season progressed. Raised by parents who “were professors at Berkeley until there was this incident with my dad,” Colter shared an unusual childhood with Russell and their younger sister Dory (played by Melissa Roxburgh, who will debut in Episode 11). Their family went off the grid in response to a personal threat, thriving as survivalists in the woods until a tragic event left Colter distrusting his older brother’s motives. Colter has since ignored Russell’s effort to reconnect, making their reunion in Episode 12 all the more riveting.
Tracker continues to gain strong viewership amid positive reviews from audiences and critics (it currently has a certified fresh score at Rotten Tomatoes); many agree the series has the same wholesome appeal as Prime Video’s Reacher. CBS has greenlighted a second season for Tracker following its positive reception and breakthrough premiere. The show ends its first-season run on May 19.
