Jared Padalecki reveals he got help for ‘suicidal ideation’ during Supernatural

“I had a really low moment.”

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki recently opened up about a difficult period in his life when he experienced suicidal thoughts.

In an interview on Tommy DiDario’s podcast I’ve Never Said This Before (via People), Padalecki revealed that in 2015, he struggled with “dramatic suicidal ideation.”

He reached out to his wife, Genevieve, who urged him to return home and seek professional help.

Padalecki said, “It was 2015, I had a really low moment. I was letting my thoughts take over and going to places of dramatic suicidal ideation.”

“I called my wife and she said, ‘Get home.’ And so, I got home, went to a clinic for a couple of weeks and looked into it. And I haven’t been suicidal since — not for a moment.”

Padalecki also spoke about the pressure to maintain a positive facade in the entertainment industry.

He highlighted the disconnect between the expected public persona and the reality of mental health struggles.

He explained, “You know, when you go to an audition or a red carpet, they don’t want, ‘Jared, how are you doing today?’ ‘Oh man, today was rough, and like, I didn’t sleep.’

“They want, ‘Oh it’s great! Excited to be here!’ So I had done that for so long, trying to focus on… what’s best for the person who’s talking to me as opposed to just being honest.”

Most recently, Jared Padalecki played the leading role in the rebooted Western drama Walker.

The actor became emotional while discussing the highs and lows of life and mentioned that He added:

“Today is a low. I am fine, nothing to worry about, but I have a lot of sadness about Walker [being cancelled], the family.”

“And again, my tears aren’t for myself. But I know I’ll be fine because I’m talking to you about it, I talk to Gen about it, I talk to my friends about it.”

Padalecki concluded by encouraging listeners to seek help and open up if they need it.

On the work front, Padalecki is officially in talks to join Eric Kripke’s The Boys for its final season.

There is a possibility that Padalecki will reunite with his Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles, as Showrunner Eric Kripke has expressed a desire to include as many Supernatural actors as possible in the Prime Video series.
